The shooting happened just hours before seven juveniles were shot downtown. It was also the second shooting at the Budget 8 Inn in three days.
IMPD squad cars surround the area of 3200 Winton Avenue after an officer-involved shooting, Sunday, March 31, 2024 in Indianapolis.According to IMPD, just before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 3300 block of Georgetown Road. Officers arrived and found a possible suspect.
Officers then attempted to pull the suspect over before the suspect fled from officers and a chase was initiated. The chase led officers into the 3200 block of Winton Avenue. Police say the suspect was armed when they got out of their vehicle. Officers set up a perimeter after learning the suspect was armed.
A SWAT team was dispatched to the area. Eventually, an exchange of gunfire between the suspect and officers broke out. The suspect was struck and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
