Sultan Sharafuddin Objects to Guidelines for Muslims at Non-Muslim Events

The Sultan of Selangor , Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has expressed his disagreement with the proposal to establish guidelines for Muslims attending non-Muslim events. In a statement released by Istana Alam Shah, the Sultan emphasized that this proposal is inopportune, particularly in Selangor , where people of diverse races and religions are actively fostering goodwill to strengthen national unity.

As the head of Islam in Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin believes that Islam provides sufficient guidance through the Quran and Sunnah, further reinforced by the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah for Muslims in Malaysia. He asserts that Muslims are well-versed in the boundaries of their faith and are not easily swayed, possessing the discernment to distinguish between right and wrong. The Sultan underscored the importance of religious tolerance in Malaysia's multi-religious and multi-cultural society, while also reminding citizens that Islam is the religion of the Federation as stipulated in the Malaysian Constitution.Sultan Sharafuddin advised Muslims, especially those in Selangor, to strengthen their faith by deepening their religious knowledge, adhering to Allah's commandments, and avoiding prohibitions. He believes that a strong faith and spiritual conviction will shield them from external influences. Meanwhile, Sultan Sharafuddin and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, graced the state-level Chinese New Year celebration at the Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple in Jenjarom. Joining the festivities were Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, Fo Guang Shan Monastery head abbot Venerable Hsin Bau, and Fo Guang Shan Malaysia Dong Zen Temple chief monk Venerable Jue Cheng. The highlight of the event was an impressive 8.5-meter Year of the Snake-themed lantern, part of the lantern festival spanning 15 hectares until Chap Goh Mei on Wednesday. The festival carries the theme 'Keep Going, The Future Is Bright'. Amirudin, in his speech, affirmed Selangor's commitment to embracing its diversity without restrictive guidelines on interfaith celebrations. He highlighted the state's multiracial community as a testament to shared values of respect, understanding, and harmony. Amirudin also announced the identification of a new site for Pin Hwa High School in Kota Kemuning and a new site for a Sekolah Agama Rakyat requested by the Federal Government in the Gombak district
