Storm surges might hit popular Melbourne promenades, and blizzards are forecast for Victoria’s alpine region on Saturday as a cold front crosses the state, bringing damaging winds and possibly the highest tide in almost a decade to the city.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning overnight as 100km/h winds were recorded in the higher parts of Victoria, and the State Emergency Service received 55 requests for assistance up to 6am, including 42 for fallen trees.on Friday night for South Wharf and Southbank, on the southern edge of Melbourne’s CBD.

The severe weather warning says damaging wind gusts up to 100km/h are possible on Saturday in Melbourne along with thunderstorms, while blizzard conditions are forecast for alpine areas in Victoria’s north-east.
