Seminarian Appolonius Yakis, was ordained a deacon by Bishop Cornelius Piong at the Retreat House of the Diocese of Keningau, Tatal, October 7.
“Praise and thanks be to Almighty God for your decision to follow Jesus, to serve Him as a priest. To be ordained as a deacon is an expression of willingness to participate in the priesthood of Christ, to be the Altar of Christ, to resemble Christ,” said Bishop Cornelius in his homily. Hailing from Holy Cross Toboh Parish, Appolonius’s diaconate ordination theme was, You did not choose me, but I chose you .
One of his motivations to answer God’s call was when he realised the lack of priests to celebrate the Church’s Sacraments, while many people are thirsting for the Word of God.
