Star Trek has confirmed that Mister Spock’s rank is essentially a lie. An integral figure to the franchise, Spock has held numerous titles, ranks and positions, ranging from Starfleet captain to a member of Worf’s rebel crew. In Star Trek: Defiant #8, as the dust from the god war settles, Worf and his crew are given a new mission by Starfleet. Spock throws in with them, revealing the clout he holds with the Federation.

Star Trek: Defiant #8 is written by Christopher Cantwell and drawn by Angel Unzueta. Worf and the crew of the Defiant are being tried for stealing the ship. The hearing is being overseen by Admiral Jellico and Admiral Nechayev, who begin by asking what Worf has to say for himself. Spock suggests the Admirals and Starfleet be more grateful to Worf. Instead, Starfleet disavows the crew, and Spock takes his leave of them.

Spock Has A Life After the Enterprise Spock rejoining the Defiant as Science Officer brings his career full circle. Beginning in the same position on the Enterprise, Spock would rise through the ranks to become Kirk’s First Officer. Later, Spock would be promoted to the rank of Captain, where he oversaw Starfleet training vessels. Sometime after leaving Starfleet in the early 24th century, Spock followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming an ambassador.

Spock Can Do Whatever He Wants Something that has been made abundantly clear during the god war storyline is that Spock can write his own ticket if he so wished and Star Trek: Defiant #8 proves this. Spock back talks both Jellico and Nechayev. When the admirals pass sentence, Spock is given essentially a slap on the wrist and dismissed. Later, Spock uses this clout to force Starfleet to brief him on Worf’s mission, which Spock then joins with seemingly no repercussions.
