The Sister of St Francis Sarawak (SSFS) recently gathered for their 13th General Assembly, marking the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi's stigmata and looking ahead to their 100th anniversary in 2028.

25 religious sisters from the Sister of St Francis Sarawak ( SSFS ) recently joined the 13th General Assembly at the Konven Immaculate Conception in Padungan, Kuching. The assembly, themed “Advancing our Unity with Christ Towards a Hundred Years and Beyond,” coincided with the 800th anniversary of the stigmata of St. Francis of Assisi. The General Assembly was filled with excitement as it anticipates the 100th anniversary of SSFS in 2028.

The assembly featured a brief presentation on the history of the SSFS congregation, serving as guidance for the sisters to chart their lives of service in the future. Prior to the assembly, the representatives participated in a three-day retreat in late November of last year. Reports from various commissions within the congregation provided a comprehensive overview of the strengths and weaknesses of SSFS. Through presentations, they highlighted challenges, the increase in the number of religious sisters, the influence of secularism, and current global events. The Gospel of John 21 inspired the sisters to revive their discipleship and called upon the SSFS to continue their mission and service as Sisters of St Francis of Sarawak. The sisters' spirit was renewed to follow in the footsteps of their Patron Saint, St. Francis of Assisi. At the conclusion of the assembly, SSFS re-elected Sr. Rose Wong as the General Leader for a six-year term, Sr. Irmina Peter as the Assistant General Leader, Sr. Agatha Ling as the First Council Member, Sr. Natasia Tay as the Second Council Member, and Sr. Catherine Uming as the Third Council Member
