NSTsports: BA of Malaysia (BAM) secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh hopes coaches Chin Eei Hui and Teo Kok Siang will rectify the pair’s weaknesses and turn them into winners.
Soon Huat-Shevon may be ranked World No 8 with four semi-final feats and a handful of quarter-final appearances to show this year, but they lack the cutting edge to go further.
They have beaten several top pairs, including China’s World No 2 Wang Yi Lyu-Huang Dong Ping and Thailand’s World No 4 Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai, in opening rounds of tournaments but their performance becomes average in the crucial stages. “Soon Huat-Shevon have shown progress but we want them to win titles. They have reached the semi-finals four times this year but have yet to play in a final. Their performance tends to suffer at crucial stages of tournaments,” said Kenny.Soon Huat-Shevon will compete in the Korea Masters in Gwangju, which starts today, before they shift their focus to the Philippines Sea Games later this month.
