PETALING JAYA: Lapses in concentration put paid to national mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie’s hopes of reaching their first final of the season at the Hong Kong Open.
Soon Huat-Shevon, the sole Malaysian survivors in the tournament, went down 14-21,18-21 to world No. 15 He Jiting-Du Yue of China in the semi-finals at the Hong Kong Coliseum yesterday.In the opening game, the match was equally contested until 14-14 before Soon Huat-Shevon allowed their opponents to grab seven straight points to seal an early advantage.
She and Soon Huat have now settled for semi-final finishes for the fourth time this season.They also failed to make it past the last four at the All-England and German Open in March and the Fuzhou China Open last week.“It was really disappointing to miss out yet again . We let slip a very good chance to make it to the final this time.
Ninth-placed Soon Huat-Shevon needed to win the Hong Kong Open to keep their mathematical chances alive before the Korean Masters next week. “Nevertheless, we fought all the way until the penultimate leg this week. There’s no regret and the two back-to-back semi-finals results will be good for our confidence and morale.
