SINGAPORE: Singapore is planning a 500% increase in its virus-testing capacity as part of its fight against the Covid-19 disease, its health minister said on Monday, as the city-state reported 573 new coronavirus cases.
It has the capacity to conduct more than 8,000 tests a day versus 2,900 in early April. The city-state has one of the highest testing rates in the world at 2,500 tests per 100,000 people. For restrictions to be lifted, cases outside worker dormitories should ideally fall to zero or single digits daily, with very low numbers of unlinked cases, over a sustained period of time, Gan said. Cases among migrant workers should also drop, he said.
