TOKYO: Japan's total death toll from the Covid-19 (coronavirus) has surpassed 500, local media reported on Sunday (May 3).
According to broadcaster NHK, 530 people have died from Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus, since Japan's outbreak began.Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will decide on Monday whether to extend the nationwide state of emergency by around a month.Compared to some countries in Europe, Japan's emergency measures are not as hardline. The public are encouraged to remain at home as much as possible.
Many shops, restaurants and shopping centres are closed. But many people are still going to relatively crowded games halls, parks and beaches, and wearing masks while they are out in public. - dpa
