SEOUL : The most severe November snowstorm to hit South Korea's capital in over 50 years blanketed Seoul on Wednesday (Nov 27), causing widespread disruption. The South Korean weather agency reported that 20cm (7.8 inches) of snow fell in northern parts of Seoul and surrounding areas. This marked the heaviest snowfall in Seoul since 1972, when the city saw 12cm (4.7 inches) of snow. One person died and four others were injured in a five-car accident in Hongcheon.
The storm affected other regions of South Korea, with central, eastern, and southwestern parts receiving between 10 to 23cm (3.9 to 9 inches) of snow. At least 220 flights were either cancelled or delayed across the country, and around 90 ferries were ordered to remain in port. Emergency services responded to fallen trees, signs, and other hazards. President Yoon Suk-yeol directed the safety and transport ministries to mobilize personnel and equipment to prevent accidents and manage the snowfall
