A Malaysian man in his 30s with a history of criminal offences has been identified as the suspect in a shooting at Setia City Mall. The suspect shot a male janitor before fleeing the mall and carjacking a vehicle. Police are conducting a manhunt for the suspect.
Police in Selangor have identified the suspect involved in a shooting at Setia City Mall as a Malaysia n man in his 30s with a history of criminal and drug-related offenses. The suspect, who fired four shots at a male janitor inside the mall, is currently on the run. According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the suspect had 11 prior criminal records .
Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect shot the cleaner in the legs and buttocks after being asked to move his belongings, though the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Witnesses reported that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. After the shooting, the suspect fled to the mall's P2 level, where he fired additional shots, shattering a stairwell window and sliding doors. He then carjacked a Perodua Ativa, forcing the driver to drop him off near the Pandamaran exit of the Kesas Expressway before escaping on foot. More than 10 bullet casings have been recovered from the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalty) 1971, which carries the death penalty, and Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. The victim, a foreign national in his 30s, is currently receiving treatment at Shah Alam Hospital. Authorities have declared the mall area safe after reviewing all CCTV footage and conducting a 'flushing' operation in the surrounding area.
