Selangor FC showed remarkable resilience in the first leg of the Challenge Cup final against Police, winning despite being reduced to 10 men.

Selangor Football Club demonstrated remarkable resilience in the first leg of the Challenge Cup final against Police at the MBPJ Stadium, securing a crucial victory despite playing with 10 men for a significant portion of the match. The Red Giants endured a setback early on when captain Safwan Baharuddin was shown a straight red card in the 11th minute following a VAR review that deemed his challenge on Police forward Shahrel Fikri as a foul.

Undeterred by the numerical disadvantage, Selangor continued to press forward with their attacking strategy. Their efforts were rewarded when Fortes capitalized on another opportunity within the Police penalty area, finding the back of the net for the second time and extending Selangor's lead. Police, however, fought back with determination. Shahrel Fikri pulled one back for the visitors in the 27th minute, converting a well-timed finish from a brilliant pass by Fadi Awad. The visitors then managed to equalize in the 38th minute when Badrul Affendy Razali powerfully headed in a corner kick, surpassing Selangor goalkeeper Kallamullah Al Hafiz. After the interval, Selangor emerged with renewed vigor and Jordan international Ali Olwan restored their lead in the 51st minute. Police sought to level the score once again in the closing stages of the match but failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity presented to Faith Obilor. Selangor ultimately prevailed, securing a hard-fought victory in the first leg of the Challenge Cup final
