The Selangor government is taking steps to prevent drug use at concerts by proposing mandatory urine screening for attendees. The state aims to tighten security measures and enhance collaboration with authorities to ensure a safe environment for all.

The Selangor government is set to recommend urine screening as a standard operating procedure ( SOP ) for concert attendees in a bid to prevent drug involvement and use at events held in the state. State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim stated that this recommendation will be among the key points discussed at the state executive council meeting (MMKN) on Wednesday (Jan 8).

He further explained that the meeting will also review shortcomings in the current SOP for organizing concerts and explore improvements, including the provision and implementation of scanning machines to detect prohibited materials. Ng emphasized the need to strengthen SOPs and enhance collaboration with police and local authorities (PBT) to ensure thorough checks, particularly regarding drugs, are conducted by organizers upon granting licenses or permits. He suggested the implementation of urine tests as part of the SOP for visitors, stating that this recommendation will be presented at the MMKN meeting to prevent individuals who abuse drugs or are addicts from entering concert venues. This initiative follows media inquiries regarding the state government's efforts to review concert implementation guidelines in Selangor after reports of drug-related deaths at events
