MELAKA: A 30-year-old female clerk lost RM45,000 after being convinced to donate towards an international fund to assist children of refugees.
In her police report, the victim who works in a company here had befriended the man on social media, early last month.The victim was then told to donate to help the children through a fund, supposedly managed by the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund .
In return, the victim claimed she would get special monetary incentives from Unicef and opportunities for all-paid trips to visit the refugees in various countries.However, the victim failed to receive any notifications or verifications once she had deposited the money.Melaka Commercial Crime chief Supt E. Sundra Rajan, when contacted on Wednesday , confirmed receiving the report.
