KUALA LUMPUR: A woman has been surviving on her savings after she was retrenched from work soon after Covid-19 hit Malaysia in 2020.
But when she was left with slightly more than RM3,000 in her bank account, Anna knew her situation was dire and she accepted an offer as a purchaser whose task was to buy certain products on ecommerce platforms “to boost their popularity”.At a press conference arranged by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong here yesterday, Anna said she came across an online job advertisement on Feb 24.
For her first task, Anna bought a handbag, which cost RM94, on Feb 27 and within 25min, a sum of RM103.40 was deposited to her bank account. “The recruiter told me there was a delay in payment because I still had two pending tasks. She said if I finished all three, my commission would be higher.A short while later, Anna was informed that something had gone awry in the transaction and that she needed to buy three more of the same lock for RM3,897.
