Federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke assures that the dispute over Sarawak's oil and gas rights will be amicably resolved between the Federal and state governments. An agreement between PETRONAS and Petros is anticipated soon.

The Federal Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, has assured the public that the contentious issue of authority over Sarawak 's oil and gas resources will be resolved amicably between the Federal and state government s. An agreement is anticipated soon between national oil company PETRONAS and state-owned Petroleum Sarawak Bhd ( Petros ).

\Loke expressed confidence in the strong relationship between the Federal and state governments, stating that they can resolve any issue, including the oil and gas matter. He highlighted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had presented the issue to the Cabinet, emphasizing the need for a win-win solution. Loke also expressed confidence in the ability of Anwar and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg to effectively manage this issue.\This optimism follows recent statements by Abang Johari, who asserted Sarawak's right to make decisions regarding the distribution of oil and gas within its territory. While acknowledging the Petroleum Development Act (PDA) 1974, which grants PETRONAS exclusive control over the country's oil and gas resources, Abang Johari stressed that Sarawak deserves a voice in the matter. He emphasized that Petros, established by the state government, will collaborate with PETRONAS, ensuring Sarawak's participation in the distribution of gas. Abang Johari's remarks come after the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said stated that PETRONAS' recognition of Petros as Sarawak's gas aggregator did not include liquefied natural gas (LNG). Azalina further clarified that PETRONAS and its subsidiaries are not required to obtain additional licenses for petroleum operations in Sarawak beyond those outlined in the PDA
