Transport minister Anthony Loke has said the road transport department cannot arbitrarily revoke the driving licence of any individual who is certified as a disabled person. This is in response to a statement by Persatuan Pengguna Jalan Raya Kebangsaan that proposed the JPJ cancel the licence of individuals certified by the health ministry to be mentally disabled,

Loke noted that the vast majority of disabled people are still able to drive or ride their vehicles. “If there is a specific or isolated case involving disabled drivers, we will review whether their licences should be revoked , but I emphasise that this is not our policy,” he said. “We cannot generalise all disabled people because many of them can drive vehicles safely, and in fact, they are very dependent on their driving licences. We have many e-hailing drivers among disabled people such as those who are deaf or mute,” he added.

Loke also pointed out the implementation of such a policy should not be done in general because it is feared that this would “victimise” all disabled individuals.Originating from the corporate world with a background in finance and economics, Gerard’s strong love for cars led him to take the plunge into the automotive media industry. It was only then did he realise that there are more things to a car than just horsepower count.
