BEAUFORT: Sabah Umno Youth wants the Election Commission (EC) to cancel its plan to put up video cameras at polling streams during the Kimanis by-election polling day on Saturday (Jan 18), deeming it an act that can instil fear among voters.
Its chief Aziz Julkarnain said while the EC must continue to be transparent, they must uphold their duty to maintain the secrecy of voters’ ballots.
“So it would be best if the EC cancels plans to install them as it will affect the democratic process of the elections, ” Aziz said at a press conference at the Barisan command centre in Kimanis Centro on Tuesday . Meanwhile, Aziz expressed regret over various incidents he deemed as election offences carried out by Parti Warisan Sabah and its supporters.
