Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun stated that the decommissioning of the 500km Sabah-Sarawak Gas Pipeline (SSGP) after a decade of service will not significantly impact the state's economy. He believes the move presents long-term benefits, allowing Sabah to repurpose its gas resources and optimize their utilization.

Sabah to repurpose gas resources with decommissioning of 500km Kimanis-Bintulu pipeline, says state minister

“Would it affect our revenue in gas expense? No, not at all. In fact, I think we can actually benefit from this. In general, we tend to benefit more from the gas being able to stay in Sabah. So we will not be losing out, but we can look at other options on how to utilise the gas,” he said. “Secondly, Petronas will be building the largest onshore liquefied natural gas facility in Sabah,” he said when speaking to the media after attending the state-level Chinese New Year celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre today.

PKR Objects to UPKO Leading Sabah Pakatan HarapanPKR Objects to UPKO Leading Sabah Pakatan HarapanThe crisis surrounding the election of Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sabah chairman is far from over. While newly elected President of Parti Kinabalu Progresif Bersatu (UPKO), Datuk Ewon Benedick, requested a two-year term, PKR expressed dissent. PKR Sabah's Secretary of the State Leadership Council, Sazayle Donol Abdullah, stated that PKR maintains its stance against UPKO leading PH Sabah due to their recent joining of the coalition. He argued that UPKO, being a smaller party, should not be given the position. The decision regarding the PH Sabah chairman will ultimately be made by the PH central leadership. However, PKR insists that the position is historically allocated to them. Despite Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe, the DAP Sabah chairman, stating that there is no quota system for the PH Sabah chairman election, he acknowledges that it is a personal opinion. Phoong, who is also the Kota Marudu PKR branch chief, suggested a transparent election involving all PH members to ensure fairness.
