Police in Sabah have rejected a permit for the 'Gempur Rasuah Sabah' (Strike Corruption Sabah) rally organized by the University of Malaysia Sabah (UMS) student voice, citing concerns for public safety and security during the Karnival Ria event. The rally was intended to take place at the foot of the Kinabalu Tower. Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun stated that two groups planned to hold rallies at the same location, which could have disrupted the carnival, especially for families with children. He urged organizers to reconsider their plans and use alternative channels for their message. UMS has denied any involvement in the rally, stating that student participation would violate university regulations.
