Terdapat seramai 169,800 orang penganggur di Sabah, meliputi 29% daripada 588,700 jumlah penganggur di seluruh negara.

Menteri Sumber Manusia V Sivakumar berkata, isu buruh di Sabah berbeza berbanding negeri lain kerana golongan pekerja yang bukan bawah Ordinan Buruh dianggarkan melebihi 800,000 orang.

Menteri Sumber Manusia V Sivakumar berkata, kadar pengangguran di Sabah mencecah 7.7% pada suku pertama tahun ini, lebih dua kali ganda berbanding 3.5% pada peringkat nasional. Beliau berkata demikian ketika berucap merasmikan Konvensyen Perburuhan Peringkat Negeri Sabah sempena program Hari Bertemu Pelanggan Kementerian Sumber Manusia di Pusat Konvensyen Antarabangsa Kota Kinabalu di sini hari ini.

“… manakala lebih 90% majikan berstatus pengusaha industri kecil dan sederhana telah memberi impak kepada pematuhan dasar dan perundangan berkaitan perburuhan,” katanya.
