Ryanair has been ticked off for promoting itself as a low-carbon emitter. But the airline's profitability means it can afford to match rival easyJet in paying to offset its CO2 emissions, writes edwardcropley:
Britain’s advertising watchdog ordered budget airline Ryanair on Feb. 5 to drop publicity describing itself as a “low-CO2 emissions airline”, saying the claim was misleading.
The Advertising Standards Authority criticised the Dublin-based airline’s failure to reveal the basis for its claims, which were based on emissions per passenger per kilometre, rather than absolute volumes. Ryanair defended the advertising campaign, which was used in 10 European countries, saying it communicated a “hugely important message”.
Shares in Ryanair were down 0.4% at 15.92 euros by 0835 GMT on Feb. 5. Shares in rival easyJet were up 2.2%.
