The Rockies are headed south of the border to play a pair against the Astros next season.
“The Rockies organization is incredibly excited to return to Mexico for the fourth time in franchise history,” Rockies president and COO Greg Feasel said in a statement. “From Vinny Castilla to Jorge De La Rosa, we have witnessed firsthand the tremendous talent of Mexican players, as well as the passion and enthusiasm Mexican fans have for baseball.”
Colorado previously played exhibition games in Mexico against San Diego in 2001 and Arizona in 2019 . The Rockies played their 1999 season opener against the Padres in Monterrey, winning 8-2. In addition, there are three other matchups included in this season’s world tour. Boston and Tampa Bay will play a pair of spring training games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on March 9-10. The Dodgers and Padres will open their regular season with a two-game series Seoul, South Korea, on March 20-21. And the Mets and Phillies will play two games at London Stadium on June 8-9.
The MLB World Tour is slated to feature 24 regular-season games and up to 16 exhibition games in Asia, Europe, Mexico and Latin America from 2023-26.
