Three girls have been charged over the incident in northern WA as community leaders continue to call for more to be done to address youth crime and social dysfunction.
Three children have been charged over an alleged rock attack that nearly injured a late-night gym cleaner. An Indigenous leader says more work is needed with troubled households where welfare dependency is a major issue.
Police allege three girls aged 10, 11 and 12 threw rocks and other items at the door of the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley's leisure centre on Tuesday night. The girls were later arrested and charged with offences including aggravated burglary, stealing and common assault.Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley president David Menzel said the incident was alarming for the town, which was already stressed by high rates of offending.
Last year Kununurra recorded more than 1,200 of those offences, comfortably more than Albany and Geraldton and despite the East Kimberley hub having a fraction of the population of those areas. "It should be a worry in terms of it's going in that direction, and it's something that we should be concerned about."
