JOHOR BARU: The Star’s Newspaper-in-Education (Star-NiE) programme has received a shot in the arm with three companies donating RM150,000 to help students continue to benefit from learning English.
The companies – Orando Holdings Sdn Bhd, Optimax Eye Specialist Centre Sdn Bhd and Malaysian International Furniture Fair – donated RM50,000 each during SPARK Johor 2019 held at Trove Johor Baru here yesterday.
Optimax managing director Datuk Tan Boon Hock said the Star-NiE programme helped to increase the level of English proficiency among schoolchildren around the country. MIFF founder and chairman Datuk Dr Tan Chin Huat said the company would always be supportive of the Star-NiE and its initiatives to help students master English.
Meanwhile, Star Media Group chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow said the group believed education is a basic right that must be accorded to all Malaysians and a necessity for any nation to thrive. Fu also thanked all major sponsors, especially the three companies, for their continuous support towards Star-NiE.
