NSTnation There was slight confusion at the High Court when Datuk Rizal Mansor entered the room through the staff door.
Rizal had appeared in the courtroom for identification by a witness, businessman Datuk Ahmed Farriq Zainul Abidin, who was testifying in a corruption trial involving the former prime minister’s wife.“This does not give a good image to the court,” he said.Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib then told the court that Rizal, who was originally a co-accused in Rosmah’s graft case, had been put under the witness protection programme and was being escorted by police officers to court.
Rosmah, 69, is charged with soliciting RM187.5 million and with two counts of receiving a bribe of RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd’s managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin, through Rizal, in exchange for helping Jepak Holdings obtain a RM1.25 billion project to provide solar energy to 369 rural schools in Sarawak.
Rizal, 45, was initially charged with four counts of soliciting and receiving bribes on behalf of Rosmah. The charges however have been dropped against him and he is now another key prosecution witness in the trial.
