Former AFL agent Ricky Nixon is being investigated by police for allegedly kneeing a police officer inside a courtroom after a hearing for a different assault charge.

The 60-year-old appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday morning after being charged on summons with unlawful assault and discharging a missile over an incident in March 2022.Police allege Nixon threw “a missile, namely [an] Australia Post package to the danger” of a man in Port Melbourne on March 12 last year and that he assaulted the man, according to court documents.

Nixon’s lawyer told the court he was acting in self-defence and will fight the charges at a hearing this year.Nixon then told Magistrate Malcolm Thomas he would be doing “health checks in the community”. But the magistrate rejected this and told him most people had to fit their work around their court requirements.

A police prosecutor later told the court that Nixon kneed the informant in his case as he exited the courtroom on Tuesday. Thomas said it was up to the prosecution to decide whether it wanted to charge Nixon with another assault.“The officer was assaulted by a man during a court hearing about 10.30am,” a police spokeswoman said.Nixon will return to court on September 6 for a two-day hearing over the alleged Port Melbourne incident.
