A 29-year-old restaurant assistant in Malaysia admitted to abandoning her two-day-old baby girl at a restaurant in Sanglang. She faces up to seven years in prison.

A restaurant assistant pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court in Kangar, Malaysia, today to abandoning her two-day-old baby girl at a restaurant in Sanglang, near Kangar, on January 19. The accused, Nor Zainab Jamaludin, 29, admitted to leaving her newborn child at the restaurant in Kampung Rama, Sanglang at 6.30am. She faces charges under Section 317 of the Penal Code , which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Tengku Ruqayyah Tengku Shahrom represented the prosecution, while the accused was represented by National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Siti Hajar Che Ahmad. During the hearing, Tengku Ruqayyah requested the court to schedule a new date for the submission of chemical and forensic reports. Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor set March 19 as the date for the submission of these reports and granted Nor Zainab bail of RM6,000 in one surety
