Over 1,000 residents of Taman Saujana Aman in Kuala Selangor are worried about the condition of a concrete wall along Sungai Buloh, which has shown signs of cracks, crevices and collapse. The wall, built two years ago, was intended to prevent floodwaters from entering the residential area, but due to lack of maintenance, it has deteriorated.

More than 1,000 residents of Taman Saujana Aman in Kuala Selangor are worried about the condition of a concrete wall along Sungai Buloh for about 1 kilometer (km), as there are signs of cracks and crevices, and some parts have already collapsed. Resident, Shahrizan Husin, 43, said the wall, built two years ago, was intended to prevent floodwaters from Sungai Selangor from entering the residential area, especially during the rainy season.

“However, it seems that it has not been fully maintained, leading to cracks due to soil movement and river erosion. The collapsed wall was only repaired using sacks and piles of soil. We are worried that the soil will collapse due to the lack of concreting,” he said when met today. According to him, the situation is worrying residents if no further action is taken by the authorities. “If the wall collapses, our houses will be severely flooded, resulting in property damage. The distance from Sungai Selangor to the wall is only five meters, while 10 meters from the residents’ homes,” he said. The residents' representative, Amin Yaziz Bani Yamin, said residents who have lived in the housing estate since 2018 have raised the issue with the authorities but it has yet to be resolved. “There are 315 housing units in the taman that are at risk of flooding if this matter is not taken seriously by the authorities. This housing estate has flooded many times due to the overflow of water from Sungai Selangor into the residential area,” he explained. He added that the authorities are requested to take immediate preventive measures, including repairing the collapsed concrete wall. “In addition, I suggest that a new wall be built to replace the old one that is no longer sturdy. The authorities can also close the drainage holes to prevent flooding,” he said. – UTUSA
