More than 1,000 residents of Taman Saujana Aman in Kuala Selangor are worried about the condition of a concrete wall along the Sungai Buloh riverbank, spanning about 1 kilometer. The wall, built two years ago, functions to prevent floodwater from Sungai Selangor from entering the residential area, especially during the rainy season. However, it appears to have not been properly maintained, resulting in cracks and crevices due to soil movement and river erosion.
Some sections have already collapsed and were only repaired using gunny sacks and soil mounds. Residents fear that the soil might subside due to the lack of concrete reinforcement. They are concerned about the potential for flooding if the wall collapses, as their homes are located just five meters from the riverbank and 10 meters from the wall itself. The residents, who have been living in the housing estate since 2018, have raised the issue with the authorities but it remains unresolved. According to the Taman chairman, Amin Yaziz Bani Yamin, 315 units in the area are at risk of flooding if the situation is not taken seriously. The housing estate has repeatedly experienced flooding due to overflow from Sungai Selangor. He urges the authorities to take immediate preventive measures, including repairing the collapsed concrete wall and building a new wall to replace the dilapidated one.
