Former Qantas Pilot Richard Richard De Crespigny says the push for lone pilots on airlines is “irresponsible” as it “reduces safety” on flights.
“Humans will always make errors, so you need extra pilots on board,” Mr De Crespigny told Sky News Host Peta Credlin.
“You can share jobs, delegate duties, they’ll monitor you and pick up if you make a mistake, they’ll contribute ideas or actually tell you if you’re doing something wrong and in the worse case if you get incapacitated they’ll actually take over. “You can’t even consider having one pilot or no pilots in the cockpit of commercial aircraft, it’s not fair to the passengers, it’s irresponsible.
“The people pushing single pilot aircraft, don’t realise how silly that idea is, because they don’t understand safety in today’s cockpits.”
