Poliovirus Found in London, U.K., Health Officials Urge Polio Immunizations
Health authorities in the U.K. are urging residents to get vaccinated against poliovirus after the virus was found in sewage samples in London.
The detection of these polioviruses “suggests it is likely there has been some spread between closely-linked individuals in North and East London and that they are now shedding the type 2 poliovirus strain in their feces,” the release says. As a result of the detection, the UKHSA is urging people who are not up to date with their poliovirus vaccination to get vaccinated against the virus.
