Opponents of the planned Atlanta Public Safety Training Center say they want to save an important green space near the greater metropolitan area.
Fires broke out at the construction site of an Atlanta police training center on Sunday, March 5, after a demonstration at the property led to clashes between police and protesters and 35 people were arrested, police said.
“The illegal actions of the agitators could have resulted in bodily harm. Officers exercised restraint and used non-lethal enforcement to conduct arrests,” police said. The area was on lockdown, with a special weapons and tactics team reporting to the scene. The fire was later extinguished, WAGA television reported, citing reporters at the scene.
