The 'Geng Heri' robbery gang, known for targeting foreigners, was neutralized by police in Pahang after five suspects were arrested. The gang is believed to have robbed a Bangladeshi man in Bentong, taking RM8,000 in cash and a mobile phone.
Police in Pahang have smashed a group of armed criminals known as 'Geng Heri' active in the Klang Valley and Bentong area with the arrest of five suspects between December 8 and 15. Pahang Police Chief, Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, said all suspects, aged between 27 and 34, were arrested in a series of raids in Gombak, Selangor, and Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.
According to him, police are currently searching for another suspect, Mohamad Faizal Supardi, 32, also known as 'Peja', believed to be involved in the crime. The robbery gang was tracked down after police received a report from a Bangladeshi man who claimed to have been robbed on October 29 at 1.45 am at his grocery store on Jalan Lama Kuala Lumpur-Bentong. The armed robbery gang, armed with machetes and iron bars, also disguised themselves as police and bound the victim's hands. 'The suspects also took a mobile phone and RM8,000 in cash. The victim suffered a loss of RM9,500,' he said at a Press Conference on the Success of the 'Geng Heri' Robbery Gang Arrests at IPD Bentong today. Yahaya said that 'Geng Heri' used a modus operandi of disguising themselves as police officers and targeting foreigners as victims. 'Urine tests on the five suspects found that four of them were positive for Amphetamine. All suspects have criminal records related to drug offences and other criminal cases... they are currently being remanded until today and this Friday,' he explained. Yahaya informed that the investigation into the case was carried out under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, Section 170 of the Penal Code, and Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, Section 8 of the Firearms Act 1960, and Section 6 of the Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958. - UTUSA
