This follows a demand by women's groups to investigate the allegations against Sungai Siput MP Kesavan Sibramaniam.
KUALA LUMPUR: The PKR political bureau will decide the fate of Sungai Siput MP Kesavan Subramaniam following a police report of alleged sexual harassment lodged against him by a woman.
The bureau will discuss Kesavan’s case at a meeting tomorrow, PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today. She was responding to pressure from women’s groups urging the party to launch an internal investigation after Kesavan was accused by the woman of sexual harassment, including calling her up to 50 times a day, showing her the Kamasutra book through video calls and sending her pornographic pictures.
Kesavan denied her allegations, describing them as malicious, and accused the woman of trying to take advantage of him and disrupting his household.Following this, about a dozen women’s organisations. which are part of the Joint Action Group for Gender Equality , said the party should take the allegations against Kesavan seriously, and form an investigation panel made up of experts including both men and women.
“Political parties should not tolerate sexual harassment. We deserve elected representatives who respect women,” said a statement by JAG, which included the All Women’s Action Society and the Women’s Aid Organisation.
