The Phoenix Suns have higher expectations and more issues than normal as they begin a new NBA season. And that's OK.
Over the last year, the Cardinals and Suns emphasized a point most of us learned long ago: It’s far better to peak late than early, at least when it comes to sports.
An editor, and perhaps you, probably are thinking, “OK, Somers, thanks for the history lesson. What’s the point?” Success without championships spawns its own demons because the natural inclination is to identify who and what didn’t measure up. And a 33-point loss at home in a Game 7 can’t be explained away by saying you just had a bad day, which is essentially all we’ve heard from parties involved.
Good to know, but we still don't know what caused the relationship to sour in the first place. Was it Ayton jogging in the most important game of the season? It was odd to single him out, because his teammates didn't look all that invested, either.
