A Perth woman awarded more than $100,000 over a home makeover nightmare will not see a cent after her builder went bankrupt. Kerry Beake hired former contractor Peter John Edmonds to undertake a range of work at her Dudley Park home including renovations to the value of $96,000, the Mandurah Magistrates Court was told. She wanted a shed converted to a granny flat and had locked in upgrades to the main house, including making the bathroom safe for her sick dad and his carer.
“As a registered building contractor at the time of the work, this builder was well aware of the HII obligations.” The fine of $2,000 is 20 per cent of the maximum penalty available, Abdoolakhan said. Beake said she felt something was wrong early in the project, claiming there was no real work timetable and descriptions sold to her did not match what was actually being done.
