Perodua CEO, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, revealed that the company's upcoming electric vehicle (EV) could be priced under RM80,000 through a novel battery leasing concept. Under this model, Perodua will own the EV battery and lease it to owners at a minimal cost. Zainal believes this approach will make EVs more affordable while ensuring consumers always have access to the latest battery technology and minimizing their environmental impact.
Previously, we shared how Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd will be producing affordable electric vehicles in Malaysia by the end of this year, which are touted to be priced under RM100,000.
He further elaborated that the EV battery would be owned by Perodua and leased to the vehicle owners, with the price of leasing set at the minimum amount. Zainal thus lauded the model as being able to make the prices of Perodua EV lower while assuring consumers would always have their EV batteries in the best condition.Moreover, since the batteries are owned by the manufacturer, they can be replaced if there are any problems.
