The Perak Road Transport Department (JPJ) conducted a special operation targeting motorcycle safety and compliance during the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations. Over 24,000 motorcycles were inspected, resulting in a significant number of summonses issued for various offences. The operation also focused on illegal racing, extreme modifications, and bus safety, demonstrating the JPJ's commitment to ensuring road safety.
The Perak Road Transport Department ( JPJ ) conducted 'Operasi Khas Motosikal', a special operation focused on motorcycle safety and compliance, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year ( CNY ) celebrations. From January 20th to today, they inspected 24,494 motorcycles, resulting in 6,039 summonses issued against 2,511 motorcycles.
The most common offences included riding without a Competent Driving Licence (CDL), lacking a valid Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM or road tax), and technical violations like non-compliant or modified vehicle number plates and missing side mirrors.State JPJ director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan highlighted the success of the operation, noting a 20% decrease in detected offences compared to the previous year (2024), despite the enforcement period remaining the same at 18 days. This positive trend suggests increasing awareness among motorcycle riders and owners. He emphasized that the operation targeted traffic offences, illegal racing, and extreme motorcycle modifications. During one operation late last night, police also discovered a car illegally modified without approval, leading to summonses, including one against an individual who had altered a Perodua Kelisa into a Daihatsu and replaced its original 600cc engine with a 1,300cc engine without permission.Separately, the state JPJ deployed undercover officers at four main bus terminals to ensure compliance during the CNY period. This resulted in 12 notices of offence issued, primarily for violations like failing to stay in the correct lane and overtaking on double lines. When asked about potential action against traders selling food at traffic light areas, Mohammad Yusoff stated that the police would initially prioritize advocacy before enforcing regulations. He explained that Regulation 10A(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 prohibits selling or offering goods to individuals in vehicles on roads or intersections
