Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) CEO K. Pathmanathan has urged residents to use water wisely as the effective capacity of the Air Itam and Teluk Bahang dams has dropped. The effective capacity of the Air Itam Dam decreased by 2.0% over 31 days, while the Teluk Bahang Dam saw an 11.0% drop. Pathmanathan emphasized the need for conservation until the dams are re-filled.

He said the maximum effective capacity of the Teluk Bahang Dam is 18,240 million litres while the effective capacity of the Air Itam Dam is 2,160 ML. He said that under the AIDAP 2024, PBAPP has been pumping 33 million litres of treated water per day from the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant into the Air Itam service area to “defend” the low effective capacity of the Air Itam Dam.
