The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and Philippine National Police (PNP) are set to join forces in the heightened fight against illegal gambling across the country. ManilaBulletin
On Wednesday, May 10, PCSO said that PNP Chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr. vowed to launch an "intensified crackdown" against these unauthorized activities and the persons involved in them.
"The country's top cop assured GM Robles that he would strictly enforce the one-strike policy against police commanders who would fail to stop illegal gambling activities in their respective areas of responsibility," the agency added. PCSO Gen. Manager Mel Robles stated that these activities affect PCSO's revenue since the greater portion of its earnings ends up in the illegal gambling operators' pockets.
"In turn, those losses deprive poor Filipino citizens of the healthcare and other benefits that the PCSO provides," RoblesHe then encouraged the public to patronize only PCSO-sanctioned games such as Lotto and small-town lottery, not just to win prizes but also to help fund the agency's welfare programs."The agency is working hard to remain a socially responsible organization that provides assistance to the most vulnerable members of society," Robles said.
