Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg urges PBB to learn from the declining support faced by the Indian National Congress and Japan's Liberal Democratic Party, emphasizing the need for change and internal unity for the party's continued relevance.
Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has urged Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB ) to learn from the political journeys of the Indian National Congress and the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. Both parties, once dominant in their respective countries, now struggle to maintain public support. Abang Johari emphasized that for PBB , which has led Sarawak for over 50 years since its founding in 1973, staying relevant requires embracing change.
He cited the Congress Party and LDP as examples of long-standing parties facing challenges related to public trust. He stressed that internal party dynamics are equally crucial for PBB's longevity. He highlighted the long-standing culture of cooperation between leaders from the Pesaka and Bumiputera wings within PBB. This, he said, is essential for young PBB leaders to understand as political stability is paramount. PBB consists of two wings: the Bumiputera wing, encompassing the Malay/Melanau community, and the Pesaka wing, comprising the Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu communities
