The Prime Minister emphasizes neutrality while PKR considers internal stability and upcoming elections in decision process.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the top leadership of PKR will collectively determine if the president and deputy president positions will be contested in the upcoming party elections. The Prime Minister emphasized that he would not interfere in this matter and allowed democracy to guide the decision. He expressed confidence that the party leadership would make a suitable choice, regardless of whether there is a contest or not.

PKR is reportedly considering not opening the president and deputy president positions for competition in its internal election scheduled for May. Currently, Anwar holds the party presidency, while Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli serves as deputy president. The suggestion to keep these positions uncontested arose from internal discussions within PKR. According to Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin, the chairman of PKR International Bureau and Senior Political Secretary to Anwar, the view is to ensure internal stability within the party and facilitate service to the people, considering the next general election is only two years away. On February 1st, Shamsul was reported as saying this. Dr Fuziah Salleh, PKR secretary-general, confirmed on January 26th that the party elections will proceed on May 24th. While contests will be open for the Central Leadership Council, Women’s Leadership Council, and the Youth Leadership Council for the 2025-2028 term, the president and deputy president positions may remain uncontested.
