KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PAS secretary Dr Aliakbar Gulasan, one of the six nominated assemblymen, became the party’s first ever representative in the Sabah assembly.
He was sworn in at the state legislative assembly sitting here yesterday in an event attended by 74 of the 79 assemblymen. The maiden entry of PAS to the state assembly without taking part in the elections had raised concerns among Gabungan Rakyat Sabah partners – Parti Bersatu Sabah and Sabah STAR.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and several representatives, who were under self-quarantine, did not attend the ceremony. Sabah Progressive Party president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee also did not turn up for the swearing-in ceremony, raising questions of whether he was taking up the appointment as nominated assemblyman.
Yong was the sole Chinese leader from the GRS coalition among the six nominated assemblymen recommended by Hajiji. Yong said that he had informed the assembly that he could not make it and would take the oath at a later date.
