Disruptive behavior by Israeli tourists in Pai, Thailand, has led to local businesses refusing service to Israeli nationals.

Several businesses in Pai , Thailand, including restaurants, have taken the unusual step of displaying signs refusing service to Israeli nationals. This action follows a series of incidents involving disruptive behavior by intoxicated tourists, primarily from Israel, at Pai Hospital and local establishments.

The protests stemmed from a video circulating online that depicted foreign tourists, believed to be Israeli, engaging in disrespectful and threatening behavior towards two female restaurant owners. The video, posted by a Facebook user named 'Sun Sun,' sparked outrage among locals and highlighted the growing concern over the unruly conduct of some tourists. In response to the incident, Pai residents have expressed their anxieties and frustrations, with some business owners even considering closing their establishments early on specific days due to the fear of encountering similar behavior. A Facebook user, Lor Andaman, shared on the 'Pai Khana' page that several restaurants in the area have put up signs explicitly barring Israeli tourists.Pai’s Immigration Police commander, Pol Lt Col Wijai Panna, confirmed that authorities are actively investigating the situation. They are working in conjunction with Pai Police Station to identify the tourists involved in the recent disturbances and bring them to justice. While official statistics for 2024 show that Pai received 221,776 foreign tourists, with Israeli nationals ranking second at 31,735, the actual number of Israeli tourists visiting Pai is estimated to be closer to 2,000-3,000 annually. This discrepancy is attributed to the way tourist movements are recorded, where a single tourist might be counted multiple times if they stay at different resorts during their trip. The situation in Pai underscores the ongoing challenges faced by tourism destinations in managing the behavior of visitors and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for both locals and tourists
