The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Malaysia will conduct public hearings to address the concerns surrounding the increasing costs of health insurance, takaful premiums, private hospital fees, and their impact on the public healthcare system. The hearings will gather input from various stakeholders, including the public, to inform the development of a comprehensive private healthcare reform plan.

The Public Accounts Committee ( PAC ) of Malaysia will conduct public hearings to address the escalating costs of health insurance, takaful premiums, private hospital fees, and their implications for public healthcare. The hearings, prompted by public concerns regarding uncontrolled price hikes in the private healthcare sector, are scheduled to take place at two locations. The first session will be held at the AC Marriott Hotel in Bukit Jambul, Penang, from 9 am to noon on February 14th.

The second session is set for the Banquet Hall in the Main Block of the Malaysian Parliament in Kuala Lumpur from 9 am to noon on February 21st. The PAC emphasizes that public feedback gathered during these sessions will be incorporated into their report, which will be presented to Parliament. While welcoming the government and Bank Negara Malaysia's interim measure of capping insurance premium increases, the committee stresses the need for a sustainable long-term solution. The PAC aims to collaborate with the government in developing comprehensive private healthcare reforms. This will involve engaging with all stakeholders, including the public, through a series of proceedings. After the public hearings, the PAC will hold closed-door sessions under Standing Order 85 of the Standing Orders of the Dewan Rakyat. These sessions will focus on summoning key stakeholders, such as relevant ministries, government departments, and agencies, for further discussions. The PAC invites a wide range of individuals to participate in the public hearings, including: complaints against insurance companies and private hospitals, insurance policyholders, representatives from consumer associations, representatives from insurance companies, private hospital management and staff, specialist doctors, non-governmental organizations, and any concerned citizens.
