Opinion: Some are suspicious of latest San Diego real estate deal [Opinion]
In 2004, city voters approved switching management of the city from a university-trained, experienced, independent city manager to whomever happens to win a popularity contest for mayor. The city is a multi-billion-dollar operation. Crazy. What other large, complex corporation’s directors would do such a stupid thing? Taxpayers have been paying for incompetent management ever since. Politicians need large sums of money to successfully run for office.
Mayor Gloria has now chosen the Sports Arena area redeveloper, practically by himself. We will all see how this budding new fiasco works out. Gloria, meanwhile, will have moved on with his dream of being a career politician. He has a nice smile and a friendly demeanor, and is secretive. Exactly what you need for deciding how to spend your tax dollars.
