FOX 5 New York hears the story of Amy Souaoro, an asylum seeker from the Ivory Coast about her dangerous trek to the United States in seek of a better life for her and her family.

FOX 5 NY spoke with two mothers who both escaped Venezuela and met on the way to the United States. Hear their personal story of the long and often dangerous trek to the states as they hope for a better life. "You walk, there is no food, you can go three days without food, you only have water from the river, that’s what gave me strength to keep walking," Souaoro said.The couple got to Texas in February and turned themselves in to authorities. They claim they were detained by immigration officials. Amy was released three days later, but her husband remained in custody for over a month.
