New documents reveal Josh Murray and his wife, a former Labor staffer, both made political donations to Jo Haylen less than a year before she controversially hired him to become the state’s top transport official.
The Labor-appointed NSW Transport Secretary Josh Murray and his wife both made personal donations to the woman who would become Transport Minister, Jo Haylen, less than a year before she hand-picked him for the role despite warnings his lack of experience meant his appointment represented a “significant risk”.
Under the question “have Josh [and Langton] made any donations to your campaign”, the advised response for the minister is listed as “yes, but they were of a non-declarable value”. Haylen has previously said she knew Murray from his time in former premier Morris Iemma’s office, and defended choosing Murray for the role despite him not being the preferred candidate for the position after an independent recruitment process because of his experience with the construction giant.
